The Stickler Hates Imperfection is Others...

PQ Saboteur. Stickler
Leadership GLUE: Tip #32
[PQ - Positive Intelligence] The Saboteur Series...
Nothings is ever perfect enough for the Stickler...
The Stickler Saboteur is a perfectionist and has a high need for order and organization taken too far.
>> The Stickler looks like this:
Punctual, Methodical, Perfectionist
Can be irritable, tense, opinionated, sarcastic
Highly critical of self and others
Strong need for self-control and self-restraint
Works overtime to make up for others' sloppiness and laziness
Is highly sensitive to criticism

>> The Stickler's Thoughts:
"Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong."
"I know the right way."
"If you can't do it perfectly, don't do it at all."
"Others too often have lax standards."
"I need to be more organized and methodical than others so things get done."
"I hate mistakes."

>> The justification lies of the Stickler:
This is a personal obligation.
It's up to me to fix whatever mess I encounter.
Perfectionism is good, plus it makes me feel better about myself.
There is usually a clear right and clear wrong way to do things.
I know how things should be done and must do the right thing.

>> Impact on self and others:
The Stickler causes rigidity and reduces flexibility in dealing with change and others' different styles.
His perfectionism is an ongoing source of anxiety and frustration for others.
The Stickler causes resentment, anxiety, self-doubt, and resignation in others, who feel continually criticized and resign themselves that no matter how hard they work they will never please the Stickler.
The Stickler offers a way of quieting the constant voice of self judgement and fear of others' judgements through trying to be perfect. If you do what is right, thinks the Stickler, you will be beyond interference and above reproach by others.
To the Stickler, perfection and order brings a sense of temporary relief. This coping mechanism might have been generated as a way of making sense in the middle of a chaotic family dynamic or to earn acceptance and attention from emotionally distant or demanding parents by standing out as the unreproachable perfect kid.
The Stickler Saboteur has a deep longing for acceptance which is often overlooked by his perfect exterior veneer. As with all of the Saboteurs profiles, what a person is experiencing on the outside is very different from the self-doubt, shame, conflict and uncertainty that is happening on the inside.
We all need to give each other the benefit of the doubt and lend each other a hand to help acknowledge and weaken the saboteurs.
